In this highly interesting TEDx talk, Dan Ariely tells us about what really makes us feel good about work. What really motivates us and what leaves us disengaged with what we do in our day jobs. Citing insightful experiments and stories, he makes the point that it isn’t all about the money. “Meaning” is the new money. Making constant progress and feeling a sense of purpose are the key. Towards the end, he brings up the Adam Smith vs. Karl Max philosophies and makes a case for not just focusing on efficiency (Adam Smith), but on ensuring that labour is not disconnected from the output (Karl Max).
Enjoy! This will be 20 minutes well-spent.
